Albion 2 Arsenal 3 Express Star A horror show from stand in keeper Marton Fulop ensured a losing end to Roy Hodgson's Albion reign. The Hungary international committed two howlers and made another error as Arsenal claimed the win they needed to clinch third place in the Premier League. But a spirited effort from Albion's players gave Hodgson hope of a winning end to his 16 month reign which now ends as he takes on the England manager's job. See more pictures in our gallery to your right Shane Long cancelled out Yossi Benayoun's early opener for the Gunners before a fabulous goal by Graham Dorrans put the Baggies ahead. But Andre Santos equalised for the visitors before the interval and Fulop's horrible error allowed Laurent Koscielny to grab the Arsenal winner from close range. Albion were behind on four minutes when Fulop misjudged a backpass on the edge of the area and Benajoun stole in to find the empty net for Arsenal. But it took just seven minutes for the hosts to draw level as Long raced clear of the Arsenal defence to collect James Morrison's through ball and plant a low shot past Wojciech Szczesny. And it got better for Hodgson's men just four minutes later as Ray Ban RB4170 Sunglasses Rubberized Havana Frame Brown Gradient

The visitors were level on the half hour, however, as Youssouf Mulumbu was robbed 30 yards from goal and Alex Song's pass found Santos, whose curling shot beat a disappointed Fulop at his near post. And another howler from the keeper gifted a third goal to Arsenal 10 minutes after the interval when he fluffed a punch from a corner and Koscielny forced in the loose ball. Albion twice went close to another equaliser, first when Robin van Persie cleared Jonas Olsson's goalbound header off the line and then when Szczesny saved smartly from substitute Keith Andrews' 20 yard drive. And in stoppage time they had a clear sight of goal when Jonas Olsson released Billy Jones but the full back was denied by a fabulous challenge by Kieran Gibbs. I think this game highlighted two things: 1) We absolutely need to sign Foster permanently this summer. 2) Fulop isn good enough to even be an under study. He looked like a rabbit in the headlights from the first minute.3) Jimmy was class again until he had to go off and for me, him and Foster have been the stand out performers this season. 4) Thank you Roy, for everything. You done us proud. Good luck this summer. 5) All in all, a very successful season. To finish in the top 10 is an unbelievable achievement. Well done everyone. We now move forward into a very important summer for the club as we look to make the right managerial appointment and player signings to keep the momentum going. Great season which could ended in a great fashion if Foster had played. But Fulop might have done us a favour. 1. He has highlighted that he is not up to playing in the Prem and so should see out his contract and get some games at Championship level (which is no shame on him, but if we do have cover we need decent cover at this level next term). 2. He has highlighted how important Foster is to our survival and future. We must sign him at all costs. Birmingham might be able to keep him finantially if they get new investment but with Bolton and Blackburn coming down they can expect a return next year also. Foster will probably want out. 3. We need a manager in place soon so that the players can start to make their decisions. Its important that we grow from this year and don just plataux and slip into the scrap next season. With QPR staying up and Reading, Southampton and West Ham or Blackpool coming up, next season will be harder for us. I sure JP and DA will deal with all of this correctly and in the best interests of the club. I am though naturally apprehensive at times like these. Boing Boing foster fust few games for us was dreadful. med me wonder why we got rid of can. just sayin i have to add to that is that i wish i been able to be there, and that i very that a significally weakened albion side were able to push a fired up champions league chasing arsenal team to the very last whistle. good times my lovelies, good times. oh yeah almost forgot, i just heard from a villa fan mate of mine (yes, i speak to anyone me) who gave me this little pearl of wisdom, and i quote word for word.
