all starting to click for West Brom Express Star West Brom blogger Jarrod Hill reckons it's all starting to click at the Hawthorns after an impressive second half performance saw the Baggies see off Bolton. Boss Roy Hodgson must have afforded himself a little pat on Ray Ban RB3466 Sunglasses Arista Frame Grey Polarized Lens
Ray Ban RB3466 Sunglasses Arista Frame Grey Polarized Lens the back after watching his Baggies team 'click' and produce a second half performance on Saturday that looked as good as it felt. After that performance, our head coach will be hoping he can keep Shane Long and Zoltan Gera fit as they looked a perfect partnership. Chants of Gera, Gera, rang out as he reminded us all of the talent he has. It took him and the rest of the lads 45 minutes before hitting top gear but, when they did, Bolton couldn't handle it. The only complaint would be that we had numerous chances to add to our lead, but we lacked that clinical edge in front of goal. Even with James Morrison and Chris Brunt putting in below par performances, the rest of the team looked determined to get the three points. Shane Long capped a fantastic display with the winning goal and our summer signing from Reading could turn out to be the bargain buy of the season, if he keeps playing as good as that. Long has fantastic spring and his excellence in the air belittles his lack of height, but it was with his head that he capped a fine move by burying Nicky Shorey's cross. Nicky returned to the starting line up ahead of an unlucky Billy Jones and he was often the one carrying the attacking intent from the back. Jerome Thomas looked brighter and took his goal well, but then went from hero to zero when he clumsily conceded another penalty. Having seen it again, I still can't make my mind up, so I will let the officials off with that one, but their collective performance was as bad as it gets. I haven't had a ref rant for a while but Neil Swarbrick was awful. Luckily, his poor performance didn't cost us the three points our second half display deserved. Gareth McAuley and Jonas Olsson were impressive again and, when Bolton did manage to get past them, goalkeeper Ben Foster was an assured figure in between the sticks. Foster nearly got a hand on Ivan Klasnic's penalty but it was well taken. Mark Davies was easily Bolton's best player on the day, but it is tough to decide on who our Man of the Match was. It's hard to choose between Long, Zoltan Gera and Shorey, incidentally the three players all returning. Long from injury, Shorey from being dropped and Gera on his return to the Hawthorns and his appearance was a happy one, as he played the supporting role to Long impressively. The first half was a bit frustrating as we wasted a number of good opportunities and the referee made some strange decisions. Whatever Hodgson said at half time, it certainly worked as we took the game by the scruff of the neck and totally dominated. The 2 1 score line flatters a Bolton side who seemed low on confidence and accepted defeat a little too easily, if I was a Bolton fan I would be worried. We moved our seats into the East Stand due to my daughter coming to the game and I cannot wait to be back in our usual seats in the Smethwick end next week. The lack of atmosphere was a bit strange as the game was entertaining and, with near enough a full house, I expected a bit more. I tried my best to get the East Stand going but to no avail. The win has moved us up to 10th in the table, not bad for a team that is still to consistently hit top gear. Hodgson will tell you that the second half performance is what he and the team have been working towards since the summer. Truth is, if we play like that more often than, we don't we won't have to worry about relegation, but consistency is the key. Very pleasing result and all round performance from the team. Most pleasing was the partnership between Gera and Long who showed any doubters 4 4 2 works with the right combination. With Gera dropping deep and sometimes making it a midfield 5 and Long running all day, Bolton simply couldnt handle them. Also good to see Shorey return to form and give us some good attacking options with JT. My only disagreement with you was the performance of Morrison, who I thought was generally tidy working alongside Mulumbu. He doesnt hustle and bustle but covered a decent amount of ground and was ticked the play over in the 2nd half. Consistency is the key for any team that wants to be successful but we must not get carried away just yet. With QPR, Wigan, Blackburn and Newcastle to play before Xmas, its these 4 games now that will be the marker for how good we really are and what kind of winter we can look forward to.
